Overview

The Emmaus Youth Association is committed to providing a variety of basketball programs that allow it participants to: 

  • Improve their fitness and athleticism.
  • Engage in teamwork.
  • Build interest in the sport.
  • Develop their technique and skill.
  • Compete at a high level.
  • And, most importantly, have fun!

Summer Basketball

K-2 Co-Ed

Instructional

This program provides its participants with an instructional environment that focuses on the development of basic techniques and skills.  Scrimmages will be organized, but the emphasis will be on encouraging teamwork, fun and skill development. Participants are  based on the grade they were in as of the Fall of the current school year.  All skill development session and scrimmages are scheduled twice per week, Monday through Friday, during the month of July, starting in the early evening. 

Grades 3-8 Boys and Girls

Recreational

This program provides its participants with a series of refereed games. Practices are not mandatory during summer basketball.  All games are played locally and schedules are set by the league. Participants are organized into teams based on the grade they were in as of the Fall of the current school year. Teams are as follows: 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th. EYA plays against other youth organizations registered in the league. The league typically begins in late June and runs through the middle of August.


Grades 3-8 Boys and Girls

Competitive

This program provides its participants with  refereed games within a highly competitive league. Practices are not mandatory during summer basketball. Interested players are invited to try out for our teams, which are organized according to the following grades (based on the grade they are entering in the Fall of the new school year): 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th. Playing time for competitive basketball is NOT guaranteed. Players from all areas of East Penn School District are welcome to try out for the travel teams.  Those rostered on a middle school team are permitted to play. Depending on the league, the season begins in May/June and runs through the middle of August.

Winter Basketball

K-2 Co-Ed

Instructional

This program provides its participants with an instructional environment that focuses on the development of basic techniques and skills.  Scrimmages will be organized, but the emphasis will be on encouraging teamwork, fun and skill development.  Practices and scrimmages are typically scheduled 2-3 times a week and are primarily held at Lincoln and Jefferson elementary schools.

Recreational

This program provides its participants with practices and refereed games within a structured league. Participants are organized into teams according to the following grades: 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, 7th/8th, 9th/10th, and 11th/12th.  There are no tryouts for this program and coordinators attempt to form balanced teams to ensure a positive playing experience for all participants. Coaches may only request up to 3 players on a team. The rest of the players are assigned by the coordinator. Playing time is more evenly spread across players. The evaluation of players and the formation of teams will occur during an open gym scheduled for late November.  No player may be simultaneously rostered on a travel or school team. Practices generally begin in late November to early December, as gym time becomes available, and are typically held at Lower Macungie Middle School.  Games begin early in January and wrap up by the end of February.

This program provides its participants with practices and refereed games within a highly competitive league. Interested players are invited to try out for our teams, which are organized according to the following grades: 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th, 9th-12th. Players from all areas of East Penn School District are welcome to try out for the travel teams. Even for those that make a competitive teams, playing time for competitive basketball is NOT guaranteed. Those rostered on a middle school team might be permitted to play depending on the league and registration numbers, while any player rostered on a high school team is not. Tryouts and team selection will take place in late October, with practices beginning mid November. If a player does not make a competitive team, they will be offered a roster spot on a recreational team. Practices are held 2-3 times per week as gym time and the regular season schedule permit.  The regular season runs from early December to mid February and is followed by a league playoff that wraps up by the first week of March.
